Happy Grandparents Day!

Grandparents Day Sept 13 2015

Send them something nice, like flowers or a lasting plant

It all started with a lady by the name of Marian McQuade. She was recognized by the U.S. Senate and Jimmy Carter for her efforts in educating youth of the contributions seniors have made in the past. Because of her efforts, Grandparents Day became official in the U.S. in 1978 and in Canada in 1995.

Silly enough, the flower representing Grandparents Day is the Forget-Me-Not, which blooms in the springtime, only in gardens and is not available in September.

But, let’s be honest here, your grandparents would be thrilled with any type of flowers or floral arrangement. A nice seasonal bouquet to put in their favourite vase is surely to make them smile.

Call your grandparents, go for a visit, enjoy their company & stories and if you’re lucky Grandma will have some cookies! 🙂

It’s a Boy…or Girl!

A new bundle of joy has arrived and you would like to send the new arrival a “welcome to the world” gift.

Sending flowers to mother in hospital

There are so many cute containers that are offered nowadays, cars, wagons, trucks, boats, baby blocks, etc that can be filled with a beautiful floral arrangement. And once the flowers are finished beautifying the room you have a keepsake container that can be displayed in the baby’s room. Brant Florist stocks a wide range of keepsake containers suitable for a new baby gift. (But please bear in mind that all keepsake containers are not stocked by all florists in all places)

Baby arrangements are usually designed with lots pink for girls and blue for boys But you may wish to be more creative and send flowers in other colors. Perhaps a favorite flower.

Maternity hospital stay is now typically very short and may only be one or two full days. It may be better to direct your gift to their home.

Another option is to send a fruit and gourmet basket (so Mom and Dad can get some sort of nourishment) with a teddy bear for baby.

When ordering remember to include the mother’s maiden name, often that’s the name the Mothers are registered under at the hospital.

If you are planning on sending flowers to the home, remember that Mom & Dad may be very busy for the first couple days. It may be best to wait a a day or two and give them some time to settle in. This way your flowers or gift will not be set aside where it may not be enjoyed.

Give Flowers and Make an Impression!

Six, Nine or Twelve Sun Flowers Gift Wrapped

Six, Nine or Twelve sunflowers gift wrapped with greens and bow.

My daughter loves being outdoors. While I’m making dinner she will often sneak into her Daddy’s home office and skilfully convince my husband to take her to the park or for a ‘short’ walk around the block. He’ll usually stops whatever he is doing to oblige her. Sometimes I get a little annoyed that dinner has to wait for them long enough to get cold but I know that these little impromptu outdoor adventures fill them both with so much joy. What’s also sweet is that upon their return, my daughter always bursts into to the house with a happy grin and an announcement that she has a gift for me.

With great excitement she demands that I close my eyes and then she shoves a handful of dandelions, hand picked flowers or leaves under my nose. Of course even though it happens time and time again, I’m always blown away by her thoughtfulness and I give her an enormous hug and kiss.

I feel good receiving my daughter’s sweet gift of flowers and I of course think that we’ve got the sweetest kid on the block. As it turns out, I’m not gloating. There is actual research to support the notion that flower givers make the best impression!!

FTD Precious Heart

The Precious Heart Bouquet by FTD is a blushing display of loving kindness.

A Rutgers University study sought out to determine how people perceive others based on the types of gifts they give. Guess what? Flower-givers rose to the top! The research revealed that the floral gift-giver is regarded as caring, trustworthy, loving, successful and valuing achievement and beauty in life. Flower- givers were also considered to be more likeable, friendly and emotionally intelligent.

We all know that receiving flowers makes us feel happy. And when I see the look of my daughter’s face, I also know that she feels pretty darn awesome giving me her flower gift! We adults could learn a little something from my daughter as well as from the files of scientific research…next time you need a gift for a special someone to celebrate an occasion or for no occasion at all, give fresh flowers. Research proves that flower-givers make a great impression! In fact, giving flowers makes everyone feel great!
