Winter Flowers and Plants That We Love
It can feel like a lifetime when we’re waiting for a new season of bright colours and flowers to arrive. Winter flowers and plants are a great solution to that long wait. And it’s nice to have some colour during the long grey months. Here are some flowers and plants for both the inside and outside of your home.
The African Violet
Now this is a sweet little plant to keep inside. The African Violet comes in lovely purple, pink and white colours. They need to be in direct light and in the winter it’s recommended that you place them in an east facing window.
Winter Jasmine
The Winter Jasmine is a hardy flower and is frost-resistant. They will do well in outdoor plant pots or as a hanging or climbing plant. Make sure you keep your Winter Jasmine in a sunny location and sheltered from the wind.
Cornelian Cherry
The Cornelian Cherry is one of the best options for a winter garden. It’s in the small tree or shrub family and they bloom in the late winter. Bringing a beautiful splash of yellow to your garden. And the Cornelian Cherry has adapted to the Canadian winter and it’s freezing temperatures.
Impatients
Impatients also called “touch-me-nots” includes thousands of species. And are usually sold as a garden plant, however, they don’t tolerate frost. So this is a flower that needs to be inside if it’s going to survive the winter. The good news is that this flower does quite well in artificial light and will bloom. The Impatient is a wonderful flower to brighten up any room during the winter months.
